Ride the Cyclone

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY!

YOU MUST COMPLETE AN AUDITION APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A ROLE:

About the show

Ride the Cyclone is a musical about a Canadian high school chamber choir whose lives are tragically cut short in a roller coaster accident. When they wake in purgatory, a mechanical fortune teller offers a prize: a chance for one of them to return to life. The teens then tell their life stories to prove why they deserve a second chance, leading to a darkly funny, imaginative, and moving exploration of life, identity, and what makes a life well-lived.

General Audition Information:

Auditions are open to grades 9-12.

Instructions:

We are asking you to audition with specific material from the show only.

Audition Song Cuttings and Sides, sheet music, and guide vocal and accompaniment tracks are available here:

Please prepare your audition from the Sides & Cuttings linked above for ONE role you feel you are BEST suited for.  (If the Director wants to consider you for another role, you may be asked to sing/read for that role in callbacks.)

Each singing role has an assigned song cutting and monologue (or short scene.) You should prepare both for your audition. If the song cutting is split into two sections of the song, prepare both cuts.

MEMORIZE the song excerpt(s) AND the monologue/short scene. Someone will read with you for any scenes where necessary.

Sing with the non-vocal accompaniment track only and ACT THE SONG!

If you wish to ONLY be considered for the role of Karnac you should select the longer Karnac monologue from sides linked. You do not need to sing.

If you wish to be considered for Karnac in addition to a singing role, please add the shorter Karnac monologue to your audition preparation.

If you do not want to be considered for Karnac, you can skip that part.

Important Rehearsal and Performance Information – PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY

Ride The Cyclone will be performed January 23-25, 2026 in an intimate production in a newly created FLCT Blackbox (converted from the current “Dance/Rehearsal Hall.” )

A second weekend of performances January 30- February 1, 2026 may be added if needed, as seating will be limited.

We will also consider double casting the show, with each cast performing one weekend each, or on an alternating schedule over the two weekends based on availability. Therefore limited performance conflicts will be considered.

Due to the January performance dates the show will begin rehearsing December 9 and there will be mandatory rehearsals during the Winter Break period.  Because of the condensed rehearsal process, only VERY LIMITED conflicts, including holiday travel,  will be considered.  Additionally, cast members will likely not be able to participate in the Broadway Dreams winter workshop at FLCT.  FLCT’s February production of SIX: TEEN EDITION will be rehearsing concurrently with RIDE THE CYCLONE.  If you are cast in RIDE THE CYCLONE is unlikely you will be able to participate in SIX. Please keep all this in mind when deciding whether you are able to participate.

We are performing the full version of RIDE THE CYCLONE, which includes mature themes and strong adult language, and it is not recommended for younger audiences (PG-13).

Orientation Meeting

There will be a mandatory orientation meeting for parents/guardians at a date to be announced. (May be in person or virtual, TBD).

Production Fees

FLCT shows are tuition-based programs.  Fees for participation are as follows:  Cast: $325.00. Scholarships (need-based financial aid) are available.  Scholarship application is available at https://flct.org/scholarship/.  Payment plans are also available by request. All company members receive a show t-shirt. Costumes and basic make-up are included although you may purchase your own make-up kit, and you may be asked to bring certain clothing items from home or provide your own shoes.  If any requests present a hardship, please let us know.
