Acting & Musical Theatre
Creative Drama (Pre‐K4 ‐ 1st grade)
Creative Drama (BC): Thursdays 4:00-4:45pm

Utilizing creative play, our youngest students explore the range of their imaginations through theatre games, music, movement, and children’s literature, this program is ideal to help children develop self confidence, focus, and teamwork as they enhance creativity and problem‐solving skills. End-of-session showcases may be filmed (virtual) or in-person. Check with your teacher each session.
Acting 1 (Grades 1‐2)
Acting 1 (BC): Thursdays 4:00‐5:00pm
Acting 1 (Galleria): Mondays 5:00-6:00pm
$180/six week session
Using simple scripts and poems as a springboard for dramatization, students will explore how to bring the written word to life on stage. The actor’s tools of voice, body, imagination, concentration and cooperation will begin to be developed through acting exercises and theatre games. End-of-session showcases may be filmed (virtual) or in-person. Check with your teacher each session.
Acting 2 (Grades 3‐5)

What does it take to be an actor? The focus of this class is formulating a clear understanding of the skills and techniques involved in the actor’s work. Each class begins with exercises and theatre games designed to expand the actor’s toolkit to improve performance quality. Students also work on text-based lessons including monologues, commercials, and scenes – learning to bring the written word to the stage through character development, analysis and interpretation. End-of-session showcases may be filmed (virtual) or in-person. Check with your teacher each session.
Performance Project (Grades 2‐8)
Performance Project (BC): Saturdays 9:30am-12:00pm
$495/session
Performance Project takes students on the complete journey of putting on a show. The process begins with mock auditions and culminates in the performance of a one‐act play or musical. Along the way, class activities focus on character development and script analysis through work on a specific play or musical. Performance Project provides students with the opportunity to expand their performing talents and every student gets a part in the show. The final production will be performed for friends and family with costumes, lights and sets.

One-on-one counseling and audition prep is offered to help prepare those planning on auditioning for acting and musical theatre BFA programs. A range of topics are covered including: the application process, pre-screen videos, financial aid resources, song and monologue selection, audition technique, the selection of the final list of colleges to include on your audition journey, organization of a senior year timeline calendar and expectations, and the best way follow-up with schools.
Coaches and students will narrow down college searches, identify audition requirements, discuss the ins-and-outs of Financial Aid and funding college, while formatting resumes and other Audition needs, plus attacking the Pre-screen audition process. Under guidance, students will find and develop appropriate audition material.

This entry to mid-level circus skills class is the perfect place to hone your talent and find your groove as you explore aerial and ground circus acts like silks and tumbling. Each session ends with your very own Circus Showcase for friends and family to strut your stuff. (Note: Circus Performance Project students do not perform in the annual main season Circus production.)

Ever dream of running away to join the circus? Now you can when you audition to be a part of FLCT’s Circus Troupe. This performance based troupe will work on strength, flexibility, spatial and aerial awareness, all while having fun learning new skills with your friends. Students will train in tumbling, acrobatics, and juggling. The show will be comprised of aerial acts (silks, hoop, lira, web, etc) as well as ground acts (juggling, clowning, contortion, trampoline, tumbling, etc.) and will be performed in late March 2023 with an optional spring tour to follow.

FILM ACADEMY
Film Creation Project
In partnership with The After School Film Institute, this project provides hands-on, pre-professional training in the industry. Students will benefit from direct interaction with active industry professionals who serve as mentors, guiding students through the entire filmmaking process: conceiving, pitching, writing, filming, directing, producing, and editing a short film that will be eligible for entry into domestic and international film festivals. Film and television plays a huge role in a society, reflecting truth, challenging beliefs, and exploring what could be. Lights, Camera, Action!
The program meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:30 except for filming which will take place the weekend of January 27 and 28, 2024. May be additional time added for specific activities along the way, which will be set around participants’ schedules.
Net Cost per student: $750 (Retail value $2700)
With the generous support of The Community Foundation of Broward, each enrolled student will receive a $1,950 scholarship, with additional financial aid available to those who qualify.

Learn the skills and techniques specific to working in television and film, and how to act for the camera. Lessons in character development and script analysis will support industry specific skills such as auditioning, commercial work, and reel creation.

Campers hone their physical conditioning and learn and refine circus skills such as tumbling, mini-tramp, lyra, silks, etc, then perform a unique theatrical Circus performance on the final days of camp.
Prior placement in FLCT Advanced Troupe or an instructor assessment is required for enrollment. Please email melissa@flctstar.org prior to enrollment to confirm your and/or schedule an assessment. Limited spots available. Please confirm your placement in the camp before paying deposit.

Camp Encore

This camp extension program is great way to bridge the gap between the end of Summer Stage Show Camp and back-to-school. Campers will play theatre games, do crafts, watch movies, and develop a short original show to be performed on the final day of camp (or virtually, tbd).

Any public location where people are present provides an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19, an extremely contagious disease that may have serious health consequences. By attending programming at Florida Children’s Theatre, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.
Mask Policy:
At this time masks are not required. This is subject to change based on changing circumstances and current CDC county COVID status. FLCT reserves the right to make masks mandatory for all persons at any time. Refunds will not be issued based on a change of mask policy.
